A viral video is a video that has become an internet sensation through the sharing of the video between friends across the internet. Some of the most popular videos have started out on the social networking site YouTube and gone on to internet-wide fame.

So lets take a look at some of the best viral videos ever made…

Numa Numa - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60og9gwKh1o

Probably the most recognizable viral video of the last few years has to be one made by a man called Gary Brolsma. Gary filmed himself lip syncing to a Moldovan pop groups song entitled Dragostea din tei, and added his own dance routine to boot. The result was an internet sensation, not because of his abilities but because of the enthusiasm and humor that he displayed. First uploaded in 2006, it is now one of the most viewed videos on YouTube with over 40 million views.

The Star Wars Kid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPPj6viIBmU

Many videos have gone viral because of how uncomfortable it is to watch them. Of that genre, the most famous amateur video of the last few years has to be The Star Wars Kid. Have you ever thought that it would be a good idea to choreograph a fighting scene from a popular Sci-Fi movie like Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace, then film yourself acting out the scene, and then upload the film to the most popular video sharing website on the internet? No? Well this French-Canadian guy did.

Afro Ninja - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEtIoGQxqQs

The Afro Ninja is another of those videos that plays on the embarrassment of others and contains an audition from the actor/stuntman Mark Hicks. The video begins with Mark deciding that a back flip is in order, which he attempts, and unfortunately lands on his face. Mark realizes that he needs to proceed with the audition without breaking the flow, stands up and tries to use his nun chucks; but he cant keep his balance and once again, meets the floor.

Evolution of the Dance - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMH0bHeiRNg

With well over 100 million views on YouTube, the most successful viral video on the internet today has to be the Evolution of the Dance. Although still based on humor, this video, rather than laughing at the embarrassment of others, is filled with ingenuity and technical ability. The star, Judson Laipply, a stand up comedian and motivational speaker, performs a full 6 minutes of dance routines that evolve from the 1960s right up to modern times.
